Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a technology that combines a power source with a contact cooling system for comfort. The handpiece contains a xenon lamp and an optical guide with a filter which projects intense light. This technology is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis (selective = targeted, photo = light, thermal = heat, lysis = destruction). The radiating energy that results is a high intensity flash of light that covers a spectrum of wavelengths from visible light to near infrared (spectral range 420nm to 1200nm). Polychromatic light is absorbed by the chromophores (melanin, oxyhemoglobin, and water), resulting in a photothermal effect which causes either cell destruction or changes to the cell. Because of a water cooling system built into the lamp, heat is not transmitted to the skin and only the chromophore is targeted, minimizing the risk of burns.
The laser has 2 handpieces, one for laser hair removal and one for IPL skin rejuvenation.

FAQs
-
Typically the side effects are extremely minor and do not last long. Directly following the appointment you will notice some irritation such as redness, some swelling/bumps, and tenderness on the area. The effects are similar to waxing. Generally this irritation will pass after a few hours. Ice packs and aloe vera gel can be used to minimize redness and swelling. You may also notice slight pigmentation changes on the treatment area. These also typically subside after a few hours but in some cases permanent pigment changes occur.
-
Normally, no. Depending on the rate of healing and what issue was treated, you may experience some of the side effects listed above. Most clients go about their day as normal.

For laser hair removal, you will need 6-10 or more sessions. You can expect to see 80-90% reduction in hair growth once the sessions are completed. Many factors will affect how effective the treatments are, such as hormones, medications and genetics. Some clients return after their initial treatments for touch ups when needed.
-
This will depend on the area treated, and the threshold for pain that the client has. Some areas are typically more uncomfortable than others (ie. brazilian). Normally it feels like a small elastic band snapping on the skin, with some heat. In areas where the skin is more pigmented, you will experience more heat. We use cool gel on the skin, and the machine has an ice cold applicator tip to ensure a more comfortable experience.
-
The laser pulses emit light into the dermis layer of the skin that converts into heat and destroys the bulb of the hair root. It is targeting a specific chromophore (melanin in the hair) and that is why the surrounding tissue does not get damaged. The hair must be targeted during an active growth phase, and that is why multiple sessions are needed.

At 707 Laser & Esthetics the minimum age required for treatments is 16.

In order to see effective results, there does need to be some pigment in the hair. If you have grey/white, blonde or red hair in the treatment area, the overall hair reduction will be much lower. Better results will be seen with coarser hair. Sometimes if the hair is too fluffy or soft, results can take longer to be seen. Although laser machines prefer lighter skin, we can laser deeper skin tones. Darker skin tones may find they need more treatments because we have to be very conservative with our settings due to dark skin holding onto heat longer.

Absolutely! I recommend showering right before and taking some Advil 30 minutes prior since you may experience more sensitivities. If you are wearing a tampon, you can leave it in during the treatment. You may use the bathroom before or after your treatment to touch up if needed. If you would rather reschedule your appointment and wait till your cycle is finished, please make sure you cancel your appointment at least 48 hours before to avoid cancellation fees.
